Liverpool Sport & Physical Activity Directory – Building a Model for Western Sydney
We’re excited to share an important initiative underway in Liverpool. South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), in collaboration with the WSYD Moving’s Liverpool Local Active Partnership (LAP), is developing the Liverpool Sport & Physical Activity Directory, a central hub for local programs and activities that make it easier for residents to get moving.
Why this matters:
The Directory will help connect people to local opportunities for sport and physical activity
The Directory will help us map what’s currently available and identify gaps that create barriers to participation. Understanding these gaps opens opportunities to foster collaboration within the community, develop new programs, and strengthen partnerships to bridge these gaps.
In the future, it could also assist with things like social prescribing referrals, helping health professionals link people to community-based activities that support wellbeing.
Wider implications for WSYD Moving:
While we’re starting in Liverpool, this tool has the potential to activate councils across Western Sydney. By creating a consistent, user-friendly system for capturing local physical activity opportunities, we can scale this approach to support the WSYD Moving vision.
What’s happening now:
We’re in the soft launch phase, testing the functionality of the online tool with programs delivered by Health Promotion and selected partners. The system will eventually include features like automated reminder emails to keep program information up to date.
How you can get involved:
If you offer programs in Liverpool or would like to find out more, please reach out to us. We’re not asking everyone to add programs just yet, but if you’re interested in adding your program and providing feedback, your input will help shape the next stage of development.
You can send your program to davidb@wsydmoving.com.au
