Zhi Soon MP

Zhi Soon MP was elected as the Federal Member for Banks in 2025. Mr Soon is currently a member of the House of Representatives Education and Appropriation committees.

A lifelong South-West Sydney local, he brings extensive experience in public policy, with a particular focus on the application of behavioural economics to improve policy effectiveness. Mr Soon has worked with governments around the world on health and education projects including across Australia, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South-East Asia. He has also guest lectured on behavioural economics in programs for the London School of Economics, University College London and Harvard University.

 Mr Soon previously served as an Australian diplomat, lawyer and as a senior executive in the public service, consulting and in the Australian Prime Minister's Office.

 He holds degrees in Law and Arts from the Australian National University and was recognised as the Young Australian of the Year (ACT) in 2008 for his contribution to the community.
