WSYD Moving Symposium 2025: Accelerating Action to Tackle Inactivity and Inequity in Western Sydney
Western Sydney, NSW – 30 October 2025
The WSYD Moving Symposium 2025 will unite more than 250 leaders, practitioners, and community voices on Thursday 30 October at the Western Sydney Conference Centre, Penrith.
The symposium is the region’s premier event dedicated to fostering active lifestyles in Western Sydney.
Hosted by WSYD Moving, a health-promotion charity tackling inactivity and inequity, this year’s theme — “Accelerating Action – Tackling Inactivity and Inequity” — urges cross-sector collaboration to unlock healthier, more active lifestyles for all communities. The occasion will also mark the official launch of the WSYD Moving Systems Leadership Course, a first-of-its-kind program designed to build capacity and strengthen collaboration across sectors.
The event will be opened by Deputy Mayor, Penrith City Council Cr Garion Thain with an address from The Hon. Ryan Park MP, Minister for Health.
The program features 40 speakers from health, local government, sport, academia, and community sectors, covering Local Active Partnerships, systems leadership, community-led solutions, and new opportunities for collaboration.
David Burns, Convenor of WSYD Moving said: “In Western Sydney, physical inactivity costs our region more than $1.5 billion every year. We can’t solve this alone — it requires all of us working together. The Symposium is a key event to bring parts of the system together, build relationships, and help to systemise approaches that enable communities to reduce inequity in access to more active lifestyles.”
Four in 10 Western Sydney residents are physically inactive yet being active is one of the most powerful tools we have to support mental and physical wellbeing. Whether it's a walk in the park or a structured exercise program, movement helps build resilience, reduce stress, and strengthen community connections. WentWest is proud to be partnering with WSYD Moving for the 2025 Symposium to help promote active lifestyles as a foundation for healthier lives." — Andrew Newton, Chief Executive, Western Sydney Primary Health Network
