Registration Open: WSYD Moving’s Fourth Annual Symposium – From Momentum to Movement

The program is finalised and tickets are now on sale for the fourth WSYD Moving Symposium.

On Thursday 22 October 2026, more than 40 speakers will come together at Bankstown Sports Club for a day of ideas, conversations, connections and collective action focused on creating healthier and more active communities.

Under this year's theme, From Momentum to Movement: Where the System Starts to Shift, the Symposium will bring together leaders, practitioners and changemakers from health, local government, sport, universities, community organisations and other sectors from across Western Sydney.

Now in its fourth year, the Symposium has become an important opportunity to bring different parts of the system together around the shared challenge of physical inactivity and health inequity.

If you have a role in shaping the health and wellbeing of our communities, we want you in the room.

A packed program

This year's finalised program brings together diverse voices and perspectives from across the system.

The Symposium will be officially opened by Mayor Bilal El-Hayek, City of Canterbury-Bankstown, followed by a Federal Address from Zhi Soon MP, Member for Banks.

WSYD Moving will provide a two-year progress update on Tackling Inactivity and Inequity in Western Sydney: A Systems Approach, reflecting on the journey since the White Paper was launched and looking ahead to what comes next.

The Heart Foundation will also launch the fourth edition of its Blueprint for an Active Australia.

Four major panel discussions will explore some of the critical issues influencing physical activity, health and wellbeing:

  • Panel 1 – Healthy Ageing: Rethinking How We Support Longer, Better Lives

  • Panel 2 – Faith, Movement & Community: Unlocking the Potential of Faith Communities

  • Panel 3 – Housing & Health: How Where We Live Shapes Movement and Opportunity

  • Panel 4 – The Broader Impact of Sport: Strengthening Communities Beyond Participation

The program will also feature presentations from the City of Canterbury-Bankstown, Western Sydney University and South Western Sydney Local Health District, bringing important perspectives from organisations helping to shape healthier communities across the region.

Spotlighting action across Western Sydney

Alongside the major presentations and panels, our Spotlight Projects will provide an opportunity to showcase practical initiatives and examples of action from across Western Sydney.

The Symposium will also feature the WSYD Moving Systems Leadership Program Showcase, providing participants with an opportunity to share their applied learning projects and demonstrate how systems leadership is being put into practice.

Together, the panels, presentations, Spotlight Projects and Systems Leadership Showcase will provide a diverse program while creating plenty of opportunities throughout the day for conversation and connection.

Bringing the system into the room

One of the most valuable aspects of the WSYD Moving Symposium is the opportunity to connect with people you might not normally meet.

Physical inactivity and health inequity cannot be addressed by health, sport, government, universities or community organisations working independently.

We need different parts of the system talking to each other, learning from each other and identifying opportunities to work together.

That is what the Symposium is about: bringing part of the system into the room.

It is an opportunity to hear different perspectives, make new connections, challenge your thinking and contribute to the conversations shaping healthier and more active communities across Western Sydney.

Supporting the next generation of leaders

This year, we also want to make sure the next generation of leaders is part of that conversation.

We are encouraging students interested in health and wellbeing, studying at universities, colleges and other educational institutions, to attend the Symposium.

To support their participation, a limited number of discounted student tickets are available for $99.

Students will have the opportunity to hear from leaders working across the system, build their networks and be exposed to different perspectives on some of the major health and wellbeing challenges facing our communities.

Join us on 22 October

Whether you work in health, local government, sport, education, research, planning, community development or the broader social sector, the fourth WSYD Moving Symposium is an opportunity to connect, learn and contribute to what happens next.
